Want to know when a web page was really updated?
Just copy and paste this line to the address bar:
javascript:alert(document.lastModified)
hit "Enter" or "Go" and
it'll tell you!
Most of this is really an experiment and a set of notes to myself
as I explore different ways of trying to make things happen. Most have now worked and some
don't yet. There is lots of embedded Javascript on this page that doesn't work!
And some that does:
This is yet another Java implementation of the classical
Rubik's Cube. Its interface is simple and obvious. You should be able to figure out
how it works. Twist or rotate by pointing and dragging in "natural" directions.
Press s to scramble and r to restore (while
positioning the mouse cursor somewhere in the applet region). If you can't fathom
it, type "solution Rubik cube" in Google search box.
Here's your chance to check out the Night Skies: Just to see what happens - and a nice planetary alignment - with values set for Hong Kong on 20 Apr 02 1100Z, press
otherwise adjust the parameters until you obtain
the desired result, then press Update. Each item in the following request form is linked
to its description in the help
file for the control panel For Julian day conversion, click.

You may not be aware as you read this of how vulnerable a Windows PC is to attack, so take a few minutes out and check out this info
from Symantec
and instruction set from Gibson Research Corp
to reduce the tangled web of bindings that Windows comes with, allowing all and sundry in
without your knowledge. Don't leave Windows Personal Web Server running by default,
it leaves Port 80 open!
Read about how Steve handled a recent DoS attack
orchestrated by a 13 year old!
I also want to import a few more Java classes and am looking for a
few helpful sites: javaboutique is about the best so far. There is actually some
Javascript at the end of this document that is meant to run a text line across the Windows
Status Bar: that's working now, albeit jerkily. View the source and tell me
why! Maybe it's time for a few more active icons as well; check out those oranges on
the tree on the Kids' page!
If you're looking as well, try these sites for starters:
http://www.animationcity.net/
http://javaboutique.internet.com/
- just awesome

I've started rebuilding this site with Microsoft Expression Web. If you find links or anything else awry, please advise. In the meantime, relax and take yourself back to those good old days when they didn't have PCs, just:

And also the small task of keeping my two children, Charlotte and William (on the last day of the last century), entertained and happy...
