JFK-HKG Enroute Diversions

Operationally getting back from JFK is easy. But we aren't paid for the easy bits. So just in case something dire happens, here's a visual guide to some of the enroute diversions that may be available to you. I've skipped the obvious, such as YYZ and PEK. There is some excellent advice on IntraCX starting with:

The JFK guide

Don't forget the list of red/green diversions in the front of the mini Jepp for JFK.

CX documentation finally makes note that this might well affect both ops and your life. More here:

Understanding True and Grid North. The ECAM will call for it as you enter the polar region. Only in the polar region, north of 65°N, with TRUE selected, will GRID also be displayed. However, note that as you head north out of JFK into Canadian airspace, you enter their Northern Domestic Airspace around 60-62°N (Canada-Alaska Hi 3/4 map) which mandates the use of TRUE as a reference so all flight levels in RVSM are now predicated on true track, not magnetic track (Blue AERAD ATC C-2).

And while on the subject of Google Earth - get it now - here's a kmz file that will help you find these ERAs. This file (jfg-hkg.kmz) downloads as a zip file, unzip it (it turns into doc.kml) then run it with GoogleEarth. - I have no idea why! Or you can download this kml file; given that this is basically xml, if you click to download you will get a page full of code so please right click and Save As.. jfk-hkg.kml
